Wet Floor, Dry Mouse Pad: The SGP40 D9 Just Works!
Abel Visser · August 2, 2025

Introduction/Expectations for the SGP40 D9:
A mouse pad—everyone with a computer has one, but what makes one good or bad? It's a tricky question, but one we're going to answer. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from a mouse pad, as I usually use something simple. Of course, you want a surface that works just the way you like it. Personally, I prefer a mouse pad large enough to fit both my keyboard and mouse. The Skiller SGP40 certainly offers plenty of space, which is just what I like. We had the chance to test the Sharkoon SGP40 D9. The SGP40 series offers 11 different styles to choose from, ranging from D1 to D11. Sharkoon is known for high quality, so that's definitely what I'm expecting here.
First impressions:
‘Okay, nice!’ That's what I said out loud to myself. The D9's design transforms your entire setup. I've always had a boring black mouse pad, but after all those years, a whole new world is opening up before me. The style of a mouse pad can completely change the vibe of your setup. So think carefully about which design you want—and here's a tip: don't go for boring black 🙂 . The SGP90 D9 looks and feels superb in terms of quality. The skiller SGP d9 feels wonderfully soft thanks to its “textile surface”. It's perfect for people like me who want a mouse pad that covers a good portion of their desk, measuring 1000 mm x 500 mm. At 3 mm thick, it's very thin, but it doesn't feel that way in use. That also makes it ideal for rolling up and taking wherever you want to go.

Let's test its water resistance:
How do we test a mouse pad? I know—by gaming! I'll explain how it feels shortly and compare it with my old mouse pad. First, though, I want to check whether the SGP40 has a water-repellent surface, as the packaging claims. This is one of the selling points of the SGP40 series. So I filled a bottle with water and let a few drops fall onto the mouse pad. ‘I don't really expect the water droplets to stay on top of the mouse pad,’ I said out loud. ‘Oh, wait—no way, that's awesome!’ Clumsy people needn't worry. Just like on a waterproof jacket, the droplets sit on top of the mouse pad. So I kept testing, adding more and more water. Oh, it's still staying put—let's add some more, then. And that's how I ended up pouring quite a lot of water onto it….. Yes, I'm one of those clumsy people. Too much water on the mouse pad, and it all ran over the edge, onto my desk and down to the floor. The whole floor was soaking wet, and the mouse pad? Bone dry. (I did dab it with a towel, but that was all.) It dried incredibly quickly and stayed in place, too. Perfect, then—no need to worry about your mouse pad getting wet and becoming unusable. BRILLIANT!

Gaming: how does it feel?
Time for some gaming—no complaints here. I'm using the sharkoon skiller SGM50W, which I also get to review. Curious about the Skiller SGM50W and how it performed? Take a moment to check out the review, as I'll be comparing it with what you might call the king of gaming mice: the Logitech G pro super light. Both mice glided smoothly and effortlessly across the SGP d9. Tracking was accurate, with no lag or stuttering. The large surface gave me more freedom of movement, which is a real advantage in fast-paced shooters. The mouse pad remained comfortable even during longer gaming sessions.

Conclusion:
The skiller SGP40 d9 is more than just a mouse pad—it's a stylish, functional upgrade for your entire desk. Large, soft, water-repellent and well-made. If you're looking for a mouse pad that's both practical and attractive, this series is a great choice. And dare to try something other than black for once :).
