Synology launches DS223 NAS with Realtek CPU and two SATA bays

Synology has announced the availability of the 2-bay DiskStation DS223, the latest addition to its lineup of entry-level storage servers for home and small office/home office (SOHO) use.

It offers up to 36TB of storage, a quad-core CPU and 2GB of RAM. Pricing starts at €290.

Powered by the Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, the DS223 offers a comprehensive set of data management tools for home users. As the amount of data we create continues to grow, the DS223 aims to help users manage it intelligently in one central location.

Private cloud for easy data organization and sharing: The DS223 lets users consolidate data from multiple sources in their own private cloud, making it accessible and manageable from any device. With up to 36 TB of raw storage capacity, it provides plenty of room for documents, media files and other important data.

The DS223 also includes Synology Photos, a multimedia management tool that automatically organizes files and supports secure sharing with family and friends. RAW file support also caters to professional creative workflows. Integration with popular cloud storage services such as Google Drive, Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive lets users synchronize data across devices while retaining centralized control.

Reliable backup hub for data protection: The DS223 serves as a destination for real-time or scheduled backups of computer folders, helping protect data against ransomware and accidental deletion. Mobile users can also configure Synology Photos to automatically upload photos and videos to their private cloud for ongoing protection.

The Btrfs file system helps protect stored data and allows users to restore earlier versions after accidental or malicious changes. Built-in backup tools provide additional protection, allowing users to back up the entire system or selected shared folders to a range of destinations. Snapshots that can be replicated and quickly restored offer further protection.

Intuitive surveillance for safer environments: Synology Surveillance Station turns the DS223 into a complete video management system, with local footage storage for greater privacy. ONVIF support and compatibility with over 8,300 validated IP cameras simplify deployment and allow the setup to be tailored to each location’s needs.

Windows and Mac clients, along with mobile apps, provide access across platforms. Users receive timely alerts about potentially dangerous situations so they can respond quickly.
