Review: Redmi note 14 pro

Redmi unboxed Introduction

What can we expect from the Redmi Note 14 Pro? In a market packed with brands, specifications and designs… Redmi is a new addition to our reviews. We're grateful for the opportunity to review this product. Although we're familiar with Xiaomi, this is the first time we've had a Redmi in for review. The price immediately caught my attention, and I'm very curious to see what we get for the money. The Redmi Note 14 series has had quite an interesting journey. Following its initial launch in China in September 2024, it took a while for Xiaomi to bring the devices to other regions. India received a few models in December 2024 with the same specs as the Chinese versions, which is fairly typical for Xiaomi.

For the global release, Xiaomi has made small adjustments for certain markets. These include different processors (sometimes to better suit local networks or price segments), slightly tweaked camera specifications and differences in fast-charging technology. This is common with its global rollouts, particularly to remain competitive across different price brackets.

Hardware

Xiaomi has clearly gone all out with the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G's display. The device features a large 6.67-inch AMOLED display with support for 12-bit color, a 120Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision. Peak brightness reaches an impressive 3,000 nits, ensuring excellent visibility even in bright sunlight.

Under the hood is the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultra chipset, paired with either 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 128 GB to a generous 512 GB.
On the software front, Xiaomi promises three major OS updates for its HyperOS platform, ensuring new features and improvements for years to come.

HyperOS 1.02

The Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G runs Xiaomi’s HyperOS 1.02, based on Android 14. We expect the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G to receive an Android 15 update eventually. For users already familiar with MIUI, HyperOS will feel immediately familiar. The interface and user experience closely resemble what we've come to expect from recent MIUI versions, though everything feels a little cleaner and more refined. Xiaomi has made various behind-the-scenes optimizations to improve performance and smoothness. We also found that the Redmi 14 pro is guaranteed to receive major updates for 3 years. That at least gives you the reassurance of 3 years of support.

Performance and battery life

If you're looking to compare the redmi note 14 pro with a phone from another brand, the Samsung Galaxy A35 is one example. Their prices are very similar, and in our view, their performance is comparable too.

The latest generation of Android smartphones is embracing silicon-carbon batteries, a technology that helps manufacturers make batteries more compact without sacrificing capacity. OPPO recently took a significant step forward with the Find X8 Pro, equipped with a 5,910 mAh battery. Xiaomi goes a step further: the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ features an impressive 6,200 mAh battery, all within a slim, ergonomic design.

Redmi Note 14 Pro+ battery performance

During my testing, with everything turned up to the max—a 120 Hz refresh rate, high brightness and intensive gaming—the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ easily lasted all day, with some battery left over by the end of it. Dial the settings back a little and you can get even more use out of it.

Charging

Despite its large battery, charging is anything but slow. With support for 90W fast charging, you'll be back to a full charge in no time. Another bonus… the charger is included in the box as standard. That's no longer a given these days, and it's certainly appreciated.

Conclusion:

We're very pleased with the Redmi Note 14 Pro thanks to its reliable performance, and the camera certainly lives up to expectations too! What appeals to me most is the large battery capacity and the design. Already used to Android and looking for an affordable model that lasts? This is one to consider.
