Hator Rockfall 3 Series Review
Unboxing the Hator Rockfall 3 Series, I immediately felt that this keyboard needed no unnecessary frills to impress. Its compact shape, weight and sturdy case made a solid first impression. This is no lightweight plastic peripheral, but a serious piece of kit that immediately claims its place on your desk. Still, I remained cautiously optimistic. Hator has proven itself in affordable gaming accessories, but a keyboard is a different beast 🙂 . How does it feel in everyday use? And perhaps more importantly: how does it sound when you type on it for hours?
I put the Rockfall 3 Series through two weeks of intensive testing. Here are my honest findings.

Introduction:
The Rockfall 3 Series is a tenkeyless keyboard, meaning it has no number pad. That saves space and also makes it a little more portable. The case is made of sturdy plastic with a metal top, and you can feel it straight away! No flex and no cheap-sounding clicks. The keys use mechanical switches (Hator Blue variants in my case) that produce a clearly audible click with every keystroke. The double-shot PBT keycaps have a matte feel and resist wear. There is also RGB lighting, but it is not over the top: you can keep it subtle without turning your desk into a fairground attraction.
The keyboard has a modern design: a black base, a white logo and clean lines, with no unnecessary media keys or macro sections. The USB-C cable is detachable, which I always appreciate. There is also a handy USB-A to USB-C adapter included, making it easy to connect via USB-C.

User experience
The Rockfall 3 Series felt immediately familiar to type on. Keystrokes are light, responsive and precise enough for fast work or gaming without accidental inputs. In games where precision matters, you particularly notice how clearly every keystroke registers.
The “orange” switches
The switches produce a crisp, clicking sound with every keystroke, the kind of clack you hear from old mechanical typewriters. Some people love that; I do not always. During quiet work sessions or late evenings, it honestly started to bother me a little. That is personal, of course: anyone who enjoys that classic “clicky” feel will see it as a plus. Ultimately, it is part of the experience. It took some getting used to for me, so keep that in mind.
What Hator says about the switches
HATOR® Aurum Orange switches are linear mechanical switches precisely tuned for gaming accuracy and comfortable all-day typing. Factory-lubricated and built with premium materials, these switches deliver a smooth, consistent keystroke with every press – without scratchiness or wobble. Each switch features a long spring for stable actuation, a POK stem for smooth vertical movement and composite gold-plated contacts for improved signal reliability, even after millions of clicks.
Other observations
The keyboard remained comfortable during longer sessions. The typing angle is quite flat, though, so without a wrist rest you start to notice some strain over time. Small flip-out feet help, but the angle remains fairly low.
I have nothing but praise for the build quality: no play and no wobbly keys. Still, I would have liked a little more sound dampening, or perhaps a quieter switch option... hint, hint, Hator ;-). The switches are also “hot-swappable”, so you can easily replace them and tailor the keyboard to your preferences.

Features
Full VIA & QMK support lets you fully configure the Hator Rockfall 3 using the powerful, flexible QMK firmware, without having to reflash it.
Hator quotes a lifespan of 70 million keystrokes. Mechanical keyboards typically fall between 50 and 100 million, so Hator is comfortably within that range, at least in my opinion.

Another point worth highlighting is Hator's use of “double-shot PBT keycaps“. This is a real advantage in terms of durability and sturdiness! Considering how many keyboards show their age through fading legends, double-shot PBT keycaps offer the benefit of lettering that effectively never fades: the manufacturing process creates a separate layer designed to prevent that wear.
To top it all off, a built-in 4000 mAh battery provides up to 160 hours of wireless use for extended sessions without a cable. As for connectivity, these are your options:
Wireless 2.4GHz
Bluetooth
USB-C (also used for charging)
RGB
Love RGB? Then you can go all out with the Hator Rockfall 3. You can set a color for each key, choosing from 16.8 million colors. You can create six profiles and save them to the Hator Rockfall 3's onboard memory.

Software
Just like the Hator Hypergang, there is no software to install: just plug in and go! Hator uses a web-based, open-source platform. You can customize your keyboard in real time through this portal without installing any software. I am not entirely sure why there is no dedicated software package, although it does save resources on your computer :). For a detailed explanation of the portal, head to Hator's website using this direct link.
UPDATE: HATOR has just confirmed that software will launch in December. In short… HATOR listens to its community, and that deserves a mention.
Conclusion:
The Hator Rockfall 3 Series is a solid keyboard aimed primarily at gamers and fans of the classic mechanical feel. It is sturdy, neatly finished and fast to type on. But its sound—that distinctive click with every keystroke—means it will not suit everyone. Personally, I would have preferred a more subdued sound, but that does not change the fact that the Rockfall 3 Series is a technically solid product. Build quality is very good, the keys respond flawlessly and it offers strong value for money. It is not a keyboard that will blow you away, but it reliably does what it is supposed to do. You can pick it up for EUR 94.99!
