Google Pixel Fold: Bigger Battery, Heavier Than Samsung Z Fold
Remy Bergsma · February 21, 2023
Samsung’s Galaxy Fold brought flexible OLED technology to consumer devices, but Samsung remains the only major player in foldables. Google could change that with its rumored Pixel Fold, which is said to be heavy but pack the largest battery of any current foldable phone. Foldables are naturally heavier than conventional smartphones because of their larger displays and the extra bulk needed to accommodate a second screen and hinge.

The Pixel Fold is expected to weigh close to 300g, approaching the weight of small tablets like the iPad Mini, thanks in part to a larger battery with a capacity of just under 5,000 mAh. This could mean better battery life, though the phone’s custom Tensor G2 ARM chip will also influence power consumption.
Google has yet to confirm any details, but leaks suggest a price similar to Samsung’s Z Fold 4, at around $1,800, with a release expected later this year. The Pixel Fold will offer a glimpse of Google’s approach to foldable software, which could be its unique selling point if battery life proves less than exceptional.
